Christmas Tissue Box - Hollies and Musical Instruments

Over the week, I designed and painted this tissue box for myself. I decided to paint instruments associated with Christmas amidst hollies and berries and not forgetting to add the music book on each panel! I gave it an antique look using Jo Sonja's forest green as the background, sponging Jo Sonja's Rich Gold and Pale Gold over it and using a rubber comb, I stroked a few places at random before I painted the design on it. I am pleased with the way this turned out!

I started on this project of three door hangers early for Christmas. They are reversibles where the Snowman is on one side while the Santa is on the other. I painted a Snowman, Snow-woman and a Snow couple while I did three different Santa faces all with a different greeting!!!

Here's a chopping board I painted for my sister-in-law as a birthday gift since she is my biggest painting fan who buys at least one painting from me a month! It was a pale pine board. I decided to give it an aged wood-grain look and the black background with the lemons painted on it would stand out against it.

My painting on a quaint little Italian Town

I started off on this painting a few days ago. I took many hours each of the three days I spent painting this due to the many fine details. It was pretty difficult as I had to focus on each part as a mini project by itself to make sure it turned out well. The actual painting looks a lot better than the pictures here. I must say that I feel proud of myself for attempting this fete to the point I have decided to keep this for myself as it would not be worth the time and effort I spent, selling it. I have had a number of people ask me if I would make a packet of it as they want to purchase it....well I will think about it.

Here is a wonderful rare book that is no longer in print. It teaches how to paint little children's faces. The projects include a pansies plate, a still life on a basket of fruit, body and soap lotion bottles, little furniture and boxes with children on them. A beautiful book and a must have for those who want to learn how to paint children's faces! I have only one copy for sale on a first-come-first-served basis!

My First Day at Porcelain Painting With Norehan Kassim

Today, I tried my hand at porcelain (or China) painting for the first time. I attended a workshop carried out by Norehan Kassim at Kelopak Galleri in Shah Alam. It was very interesting and exciting and it was totally different from acrylic painting. I learnt to paint hydrangeas on a large white tile. No patterns or tracing were required. It was all free-hand drawing using my imagination. The result can be seen in the photo. However, this is only the first stage. The next stage is to send it for first firing before having to paint further on it for the 3D effect. Can't wait to get to learn roses as these are done very differently from how we paint with acrylic. Yet the whole look in porcelain painting is soft and dreamy. I may just try this technique with acrylic and glass and tile medium.

Another make-over for a liquor bottle for my friend, Pat. I took over a week to complete this not because it was difficult but I just procrastinated!!!! This is the first time since I started painting that I have procrastinated in completing a project! Anyway, I am pleased with the result and I can't wait to give it to her this Thursday as I know she will love it like the last one I did for her!

The Kiss - Plaque - at RM200

My colleague, Suraya Ahmed, commissioned me to paint this for her. It was one of the hardest I have ever attempted as I got this picture directly from the computer (I chose all the colours accordingly) and it took me four days to complete it. The first day, saw me preparing the background with a variety of techniques - sponging, rubbing and using crinkled cling wrap to get the rough and rugged textured look for the floor and walls. On the second day, I basecoated the couple.On the third day, I completed the man and today, I completed the lady and varnished the piece using a little Burnt Orange paint in my varnish to give it an aged look. I have to say, that I am very happy for how it turned out and I can't wait to give it to Suraya on Monday!

20 inch Johnny Walker Whiskey Bottle for Pat - Irises

My good friend, Pat, passed me this huge bottle, the largest whiskey bottle I have ever seen,and asked me to paint something on it for her. I thought these irises on a black background would be perfect. Somehow the pictures do not do it justice as the bottle actually looks stunning after I painted it! I am sure she is going to love it. She has decided that I paint all her collection of liquor bottles that she has been keeping!

Over the last two days I painted these French Cameo Chefs simultaneously. I actually wanted to have a weathered look as the background but I somehow failed to get the crackled effect I wanted. I believe I did not have the right brand of crackle medium for the look I wanted to get. I finally ended up "cheating" a bit by penning in the crackled look! I hope I won't be put in "artist jail" for it!!!

I completed this painting last night. I glued actual spices and herbs in each bottle I painted, then varnished the whole piece by spraying varnish on the spices followed by brushing satin varnish on the board.

I completed this whimsical painting last night. I wanted a short break from painting children! However, as I started on this painting, I somehow lost the mood for it and "drudgingly" went on at it. By the time i finished the pear and watermelon, my excitement came back into finishing it and I am glad I did so, because I ended up loving the burst of colours I created! I didn't want to have a first where I would start a painting halfway and dump it aside to do some other as I have always finished each piece before moving on to the next ( a form of discipline I practise)!
